| The Key Accounts program assists the Member-Distribution Cooperatives in fostering expansions by their existing business members. |
| Most new jobs are created by expansions of existing businesses. Business Retention & Expansion (BR&E), aka Key Accounts, is the most productive economic development strategy. Northeast Power's economic development staff assists its Member-Distribution Cooperatives when any of their commercial & industrial (C&I) members want to expand or have concerns. Northeast Power works closely with the Member-Distribution Cooperatives and the local economic development organizations. |
Priority criteria have been adopted for working with existing C&I member businesses seeking to expand.
In the following order, Northeast Power will attempt to expand the business into a building or site:
- In the service area of the cooperative that currently serves the business.
- Elsewhere in a county served by that cooperative where it might realize spin-off benefits in the form of increased business development or residential development that will be served by the cooperative, or employment opportunities for its members.
- In the service area of a neighboring cooperative served by Northeast Power.
- In the service area of any other cooperative served by Northeast Power.
- Elsewhere in a county served by one of the Member-Distribution Cooperatives where the cooperative might realize spin-off benefits in the form of increased business development or residential development that will be served by the cooperative, or employment opportunities for its members.
- In the service area of any other cooperative served by Associated Electric Cooperative, Inc.
- Anywhere in Iowa or Missouri in order to be responsive to the needs of the C&I member business.
- Any location in order to be responsive to the needs of the C&I member business.
